Natural Floor & Wall Tiles

for timeless quality & beauty

Travertine is one of the most frequently used stones in modern architecture, and is commonly seen as façade material, wall cladding, and flooring.

BUT WHAT IS THIS STONE REALLY?

According to Wikipedia, it is a sedimentary rock and is a natural chemical precipitate of carbonate minerals; typically Aragonite, but often recrystallized to Calcite. Basically, calcium carbonate is deposited from the water of mineral springs or rivulets saturated with calcium bicarbonate. The spring water can either be hot, warm or cold. The amount of deposits may increase with the water's temperature or when biotic material accelerates the precipitation. Travertine is mostly imported from Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Peru and China.

Unfilled Travertine

These are quarried, cut down to tile size and honed to a smooth, satin matt finish, but left unfilled for a more textured effect.

Travertine colours range from warm earthy tones and soft ivories to rich shades of golden honey and deep mocha browns, and various cuts from the quary make for the most beautiful forms of cladding.

Honed, filled Travertine

These are quarried, cut down to tile size, and then filled with a mixture of Travertine dust and white cement, thus ensuring that the filler is the colour of the stone. The tile is then honed to a smooth, satin matt finish.
