Geberit DuoFresh Concealed Cistern with odor extraction
Odors in the WC are rather unpleasant. Burning a match, room sprays, or open windows do help somewhat in minimizing the smell, but they are ultimately just treating the symptom. Geberit now goes straight to the problem’s source.
Be honest: who likes bad smells in the WC area? And who doesn’t care about leaving behind their personal scent? All over the world, people are buying odor-masking sprays, installing room fresheners, opening the window and whoops – there goes the heat. And all these efforts are often only partially satisfactory, but no real solution to the “natural phenomenon” itself. Maybe that could change? Well, Geberit knows a simple, effective and yet environmentally friendly way to eliminate odors in the toilet thoroughly. Those foul-smelling gases are vacuumed up and neutralized right “at the scene of the crime”. The smell has no chance to even infiltrate the room. This solution has already proven itself for many years with the Geberit AquaClean shower toilet.
Geberit DuoFresh – odor extraction right in the WC
When the cistern also removes odors
Geberit, the European market leader in sanitary technology, has declared an all out campaign against odors in the WC with its launch of the Geberit DuoFresh. And on their side is the fact that the Geberit DuoFresh works through an amazingly simple process. The air is directly suctioned out of the WC ceramic appliance through the flush water inlet, purified through active carbon and released back into the room.
Geberit DuoFresh is integrated in the proven Duofix WC element as well as in the GIS Geberit installation system. In both cases, only a power connection is required, no additional planning or construction measures. Even the connecting and mounting material are the same. This means that the Geberit DuoFresh odor extraction works with WC ceramic appliances from most manufacturers.
A simple and clean solution
The active carbon filter is located right behind a fold-open Geberit Sigma40 actuator plate for the flush and can be replaced in just two simple steps. Depending on the household size, it only needs to be replaced every 6 to 24 months. The odor extraction unit is manually activated through a switch on the actuator plate. A built-in control turns off the fan after a set time period of ten minutes. But odor extraction isn’t just about personal comfort; there is also an environmental argument to be made. Over the entire year, the fan only uses about five percent of the energy that is lost when the window is slightly opened for ten-minute time periods throughout the day in winter.
All functions behind a simple plate
Geberit DuoFresh is always combined with a dual flush. The Geberit Sigma40 white actuator plate, designed by the German industrial designer Christoph Behling, has two different sized large actuator buttons in brushed aluminium. The Geberit Sigma40 actuator plate floats on the wall. The switch to turn on the odor extraction unit is easily accessible behind the actuator plate but also invisible. There is another function that it is not immediately apparent: the plate can be easily opened in one step for the simple replacement of the active carbon filter. At the same time the fold open plate makes the insert for in-cistern blocks accessible.
In countless households the ritual is to open the window for a few minutes after use of the facilities. If that isn’t an option, air freshener or a fan is deployed. Although a short aeration of the bathroom can create a pleasant atmosphere in the summer, open windows lose a lot of heating energy in the colder months. For example, a family of four that cracks open the bathroom window four times daily for ten minutes each will lose around 44 kWh of energy yearly. And that is only if someone doesn’t forget to close the window again. The Geberit DuoFresh’s odor extraction capabilities make airing out the bathroom unnecessary. The same family would use 2 kWh of energy per year to operate the suction unit integrated in the cistern, or 20 times less energy than traditional aeration through a slightly opened window
Electronic room vents also cause significant energy loss. They suck air from a windowless sanitary unit and blow it out into the open without first passing it through a heat exchanger, consuming much more energy than the Geberit DuoFresh. Compared to air freshener sprays, Geberit DuoFresh also comes out ahead. Many of these sprays emit pollutants into the environment and may pose potential health hazards. In comparison, deodorizing suctioned air through active carbon is completely safe for both the environment and human health.
How does active carbon work?
Active carbon consists mostly of carbon and has a highly porous structure. The countless pores are interconnected, similar to a sponge. This structure enables active carbon to bind huge quantities of odor molecules and only let through the small, pure air molecules. After a while, the pores are filled up and the active carbon filter must be replaced. Used filters can be disposed of in the household garbage with no adverse environmental effects. The Geberit DuoFresh active carbon filter can be easily changed in a snap. The filters are available in sanitary specialist stores and directly from plumbers.
