Dry Element Technology consists of a heating wire which is threaded through the towel rail bars, when the unit is switched on the wire heats up quickly and activates the entire towel rail.
How does it work?

Dry Element Technology or abbreviated as DET simply put is a length of special purpose heating wire that is installed within the heated towel rail. This is a similar principle to that used in under floor heating. When the power is turned on the wire heats up which in turn heats up the towel rail.

Construction

The Bathroom Butler DET collections of heated towel rails are constructed using our patented method of construction. This method of construction involves the use of laser tube cutting and screws to fix the bars together. Our patented method of construction ensures that the heating wire does not get damaged during assembly. There is no welding used in the construction which therefore makes all the joints very neat. All of the heated towel rails within the DET collections are earthed in compliance with relevant local regulations.

Heating Principle

A. Heat distribution
The special purpose heating wire that is installed in the towel rail distributes heat evenly along the length of the wire. DET works on the principle of heat on demand which means firstly that heat is only distributed along the path that the wire is installed along and secondly that heat is mostly available directly where it is required. There is no thermal fluid required to distribute the heat. The result is that there is a short heating up time (about 10min to reach 30°C above room temperature) as well as a smaller element being required.

B. Increase in temperature through insulation
The temperature of the covered bars of towel rail will increase when towels are draped over the bars. When the bars are covered by towels they act as insulation effectively trapping the heat at this location and so the temperature of the these covered bars will increase. It is important to note that only the covered bars will increase in temperature because there is no thermal fluid that would normally circulate the heat away from this area. The result is two fold, firstly the increase in temperature on the covered rails will dry towels quicker making DET more efficient and secondly because only the covered rails increase in temperature DET is safer.

C. Operating temperatures
The heating wire in Bathroom Butler products has been designed to achieve a towel rail surface temperature of between 30-35°C above room temperature without any towels draped over the bars. With 4 Layers of towels the maximum temperature that can be achieved on any bar is 55-65°C above room temperature (temperature dependent on dryness of towels).
